Oxygen - O2

Most widely occurring element on Earth is the oxygen, was being discovered by Joseph Priestly in 1774 which occurs mostly around 23% regarding the space we breath. This is the greatest vital need of any life, as without oxygen life should have been possible. Hence shall be spoke about as an active life-sustaining element present on Earth as it exists most abundantly on Earth's surface, comprises 90% of water, two-third of person body and amp; one-fifth by volume of air. It shall also be dissolved in h2o giving life to aquatic plants on Earth. Commercially it shall be prepared by the liquification of space and amp; then fractional distillation.

It also shall be prepared by the electrolysis of water. It is an element that has an atomic no. 8 and amp; is represented by the symbol O. It is derived from the Greek phrase oxys meaning acid, or that refers to sour try of acid, and amp; - -gens which means producer or begetter. This nomenclature was a mistake as previously it was thought that the acids of all kind requires oxygen in their composition.

Normally at standard heat and amp; compression 3 atoms of oxygen bind to formdioxygenwhich is a odorless, tasteless, and amp; a very pale blue diatomic gas defined with the formulaO2. Oxygen is the member regarding the chalcogen team within the periodic table with very high reactive non-metal element and amp; reacts with most regarding the other elements to shape compounds, notably oxides. Oxygen possesses the 2nd highest electronegativity of all element, fluorine being first highest. But in accordance to mass oxygen is the third most abundant element within the universe subsequent to hydrogen and amp; helium, but most abundant element on the Earth's crust creating up almost 1/2 regarding the mass regarding the crust. Properties of Oxygen:Few physical as well as chemical properties of oxygen in brief is as follows:.

vElectron Configuration:1s22s24p4. vMelting Point:-2190C. vBoiling point:-1830C. vNumber of Isotopes:4. vIt is colourless, odorless and amp; tasteless in nature.

Characteristics of Oxygen:There are a sure character within the oxygen that separates it from others. For instance it mainly exists in di-atomic structure forming the molecule dioxygen O2, but it should possibly be obtained in its tri-atomic structure namely ozone, that is very many active in any reaction and amp; is formed by the action of electrical discharge or ultraviolet rays on oxygen. It also exist in all the 3 states of matter-solid, liquid and amp; gas. Most solid and amp; liquid forms are pale blue in colour and amp; are strongly paramagnetic. The liquid shape is greatly hazardous about flames as its sparks shall greatly accelerate combustion.

Around nine isotopes of oxygen are yet known, but the oxygen that are located in nature consists of 3 of them.
